If you want to pay the correct super amounts at the right time to all your employees, we can help you set it up as a payroll process. We’ll help improve your automation with tools such as Quicksuper (or another super clearing program) and help you streamline your super payment processes.
The simple answer is yes, all businesses with employees are now required to report wages electronically to the Australian Tax Office (ATO), every time your payroll is processed. Get in touch if you would like us to show you how to do Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting using your accounting software such as XERO or MYOB or Reckon.
The information that you need from your new employee to add them to your MYOB, XERO, Reckon (or most other accounting software) should come from asking them to complete a TFN declaration as well as a Superannuation Choice Form. Once they have properly filled in these documents, you can easily add them yourself to your system. Or, if you need any assistance, give us a call, and we can make sure everything is good to go.
It should be paid by the 28th of the following month, from the end of each quarter. If you miss this date, see the next question on what to do if you miss the deadline.
Firstly, don’t worry too much. Keeping transparent is the best thing you can do. Aim to lodge a Superannuation Guarantee Charge Statement with the ATO as soon as you can. If you are unsure how to do this, you can ask your bookkeeper or accountant to help. While you will still need to pay the outstanding amount, you will be given the option to set up a payment plan that suits your cash flow.
Payroll tax is a state-based tax that becomes payable once total remuneration paid to employees including contractor payments exceeds a threshold. For example, the threshold for Victoria is $700,000 for the year ended 30 June 2022 ($650,000 for year ended 30 June 2021). Feel free to contact us to discuss further.
